I had a great day on Wednesday travelling to Durham to do an art nude portrait session with Zara. I was joining two other photographers … Elli Cassidy and Becky Williams. We spent a good couple of hours in Zara’s beautiful home taking some pictures and trying differing lighting setups.

All in all a great day and it is good to keep training and collaborating with other photographers …. that way we all learn from each other and hopefully it shows in our work …. and this ongoing personal development is one area that many photographers overlook. It’s fun, informative and you hopefully get a few shots to be proud of !

Today I have found out that I have been awarded a Fellowship accreditation in Wedding Photography !

For those that don’t know many of the UK professional photography bodies offer three different levels of qualification / accreditation to recognise photographer standards within the industry.

The there levels are outlined below and Fellowship is the highest that you can attain – so needless to say I’m rather pleased !

Licentiate

Even though the Licentiateship is where most applicants will begin the qualification process, a high standard of submitted work is required. This high standard must run from capture through to processing.

The IPPN Licentiateship will be awarded to applicants who show a consistently good level of professionalism in their submitted panel of work, giving the board confidence that they are able to produce a good professional standard of work for their clients.

Associate

The IPPN Associateship is awarded to applicants who are able to demonstrate a high level of competence in professional photography.

A panel of work submitted for Associateship must clearly demonstrate a high degree of skillfulness and understanding of professional photography. Work must show a high level of expertise and experience in the technical aspects required at both the capture stage and the processing stage.

In addition to the technical aspects of photography, an IPPN Associateship requires the applicant to have developed a high level of creativity and visual style.

Fellowship

An IPPN Fellowship will be awarded only to photographers who clearly show truly outstanding aptitude and flair in their chosen field

In addition to demonstrating the highest levels of technical expertise, the IPPN Fellow will be an experienced photographer who shows a strong and unique creativity that takes professional photography to a level to which others will aspire. The work of the Fellow of the IPPN will be an influence to others in its outstanding quality

I already held Associate with a previously submitted panel so used this opportunity to show the distinct style that many clients hire me for on their wedding day, and it seems the panel of judges agreed with my choices.

It was also very nice to hear that the time and effort I put in to helping others within the industry has also been recognised as I’m a true believer that we all got help when we started out in one way or another and should pay this back whenever we can by helping those who are just starting out on a career in photography.

Aston Hall Engagement 001 Sheffield Aston Hall Wedding Photography | Andy and Jacqueline Engagement

I had a great meet up this morning with Andy and Jacqueline at Aston Hall in Sheffield for their pre wedding engagement photography session. Despite the sun being out it was bitterly cold but both were super relaxed as we had a wander round the grounds of this lovely Sheffield wedding venue.

Andy and Jacqueline’s big day is less than 5 weeks away and are we taking bets on it being a white wedding ?

Here are a few from our walk round Aston Hall’s beautiful grounds

I’m pleased to announce two dates for a fantastic posing and lighting workshop here in Chesterfield. I’m hosting this in conjunction with Alex Lord who specialises in newborn and maternity and is an expert on producing beautiful maternity shots using all sorts of fabric.

Dates are:

26th February

05th March

Attendees will learn simple lighting techniques to get dramatic results with the minimum of fuss – then Alex will show step by step how to wrap beautiful fabrics and we will light these easily and effectively. You will need your DSLR and suitable lenses for portraits and be fully familiar with its operation.

There will be a question and answer session at the end with some example processing of the images from the day but attendees are encouraged to get involved throughout the day to make it a fully interactive learning experience.

So what are you waiting for …. places are limited to 4 per date so that there is no chance of not getting what you want image wise and information wise !
