I had great news today that a wedding panel I had submitted for qualification had been judged to have passed at Associate level by the judges over at the International Professional Photographers Network. This is the second highest level achievable – so I am just a little bit pleased !
The panel is made up of 10 images from one wedding and 10 images from a selection of different weddings.
IPPN isn’t a pay and you are in organisation – to get membership you have to be a working professional, full or part time, and be able to prove it. They are a network whose sole aim is to help the professional photographer move forward in his or her business and provide help and guidance wherever they can. The qualification program was started when it was felt that other similar organisations were perhaps a little generous in the standards that they adopted – IPPN wanted their awards to reflect good work and determination, even if that meant the bar was raised !
Below is the panel I submitted and a slideshow of the images. Judges comments are listed at the end.
This set of images meet the standard required for the Associate Award. An accomplished panel which displays a consistently high standard of image taking & processing. Simon has, within the confines of the panel, demonstrated an ability to not only cover a varied range of wedding photography genres but also display a strong personal style which runs throughout the panel. Technically, the images are praiseworthy with composition, exposure and processing all adding to the image. Natural & artificial light are very well handled.
The images lit with OCF are very competently managed and show evidence of considerable thought put into the lighting process. Images 8 & 13 stand out to me as excellent examples of, in the case of 8, an image created by the photographer &, in the case of 13, outstanding reportage photography.
In my opinion this panel reaches the standards required for the award of an IPPN Associateship.Whilst all of the images are to a high standard, there are a number of particularly strong images, with perhaps no 11, in my opinion, being the weakest. No 7 is very strong but I would have loved to see some cropping of the top to give a wider format. Number 20 is absolutely beautiful.
The panel contains good coverage, both exterior and interior, informal and formal and a good mixture of lighting. All in all a panel well worthy of an IPPN Associate award.
All images are of a particularly high standard showing brilliant technical and artist qualities. Simon clearly shows that he is in complete control with consistently high quality imagery in what looks like some challenging conditions. Attention to detail both with the posed and unposed images is of a very high standard, particularly positioning of limbs in the posed images and the moment of capture in the unposed also the Bride and Groom reflection in the silhouette image (20).Post processing is ultra consistent as one would expect from a submission to Associate standard as proven in particular buy the images using off camera lighting, different Brides, different circumstances same high quality ‘signature’ images.
Excellent set.
